IdeaSlam

Getting future entrepreneurs and our youth to develop critical path thinking is important for the creation of the new businesses of the future. The U.S. has a history of leading in innovation. Getting potential entrepreneurs early exposure to business concepts will start them on the path of pursing greater knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship. This Program is one of the ways we can inspire their creativity in a positive way.

Establishing the idea for a business is only the first step towards creating a plan for a business, but is an essential one. Once an idea is formed, additional work will be needed to then create the full concept for the business and then a business plan that provides all the details about how the business will be launched into full operation. As a follow-on to the Ideation Program, EntreDot offers programs for Business Concept Development as well as Business Plan Development, which entrepreneurs and students can take advantage of in addition to other programs the school system and local community might offer.

The Ideation Program:

Ideation is the process every successful business goes through first in creating a new business. The first step, called the IdeaSlam, is designed to give entrepreneurs and students the experience of creating, developing and evaluating business ideas.

The IdeaSlam is an opportunity to capture the innovative spark of a new idea for a business and put it into a form that can be communicated to and evaluated by other people. In order to keep this simple, each entrepreneur or student needs to prepare themselves for the IdeaSlam by creating a three (3) minute presentation of their idea for a new business. An easy way to get ready is to prepare the presentation based on the answers to the following five (5) questions:

  1. What is the business problem I am solving?
  2. What product or service am I offering?
  3. Who will buy it?
  4. Why will I win against competitors?
  5. How do I make money?

During this session, participants will see how an idea is presented by actually practicing it. They will get feedback from the other students as well as the facilitator and the business mentors in attendance.
